POSITION SUMMARY
The Osborne Village Biz Community Safety Ambassadors are dedicated to building strong relationships within the community. As approachable and compassionate figures, they actively engage with community members to understand their needs and provide assistance. By fostering trust and open communication, the Ambassadors help create a safer, more inclusive and welcoming environment, while also collaborating with relevant organizations to enhance community well-being.
In addition to ensuring community safety, Ambassadors are responsible for maintaining the area by removing litter and addressing environmental hazards. They report safety concerns, facilitate “safe walks,” document graffiti for cleanup, and guide individuals to available community resources.
Our ideal candidate is enthusiastic, community-oriented, self-motivated, and has excellent interpersonal skills. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and public relations skills, along with excellent note-taking capabilities, are essential. The successful candidate must thrive in a team environment, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate professionalism at all times. This position is particularly suitable for post-secondary students or individuals pursuing a career in community outreach service.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Conduct foot patrols of the Osborne Village area, providing visible support to the community.
Offer directions, “safe walks,” general assistance, and resource information while on patrol.
Engage with Biz members to gather information about safety and other community needs.
Identify and remove safety hazards and litter from the area whenever possible.
Keep a daily log of all activities and submit reports as required.
Collaborate with other safety partners as necessary.
Share information with other Biz regarding community issues.
Assist with events supported by Osborne Village Biz.
Follow organizational policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REPORTING
Community Safety Patrols report directly to the Safety Coordinator and are ultimately accountable to the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
A High School diploma is required; additional education in a related field is an asset.
Candidates must provide a clear criminal record and Adult and Child Abuse Registry check.
Physical fitness is necessary to patrol on foot for 15-30 hours per week in various weather conditions.
Candidates must be able to communicate clearly in English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
First Aid/CPR, Conflict De-escalation, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Lateral Violence and Empathy, Situational Awareness and Harm reduction training will all be provided for successful applicants.
HOURS OF WORK / WAGES
Available shifts range from 15 to 30 hours per week, with pay starting at $16.00 per hour.
Experienced applicants are eligible for higher starting pay and supervisory roles.
Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends, and occasional special events.
Shifts are typically scheduled between noon and midnight, with times varying for special events and weekend shifts.
Paid training is provided.
